X-ray technology---High energy radiography

High energy radiography

X-rays with a capacity above 1 MeV are called high-energy rays.

Industrial radiography usually uses two electronic speed governors, namely cyclotrons and linear accelerators.

1. Cyclotron
The focus of the electron cyclotron is very small, the photographic geometry is not clear, and high-sensitivity photos can be obtained, but the equipment is complicated, the cost is high, the volume is large, and the ray intensity is low, which affects its application.

2. Linear accelerator
The focus of the linac is slightly larger than that of the electron cyclotron, but its volume is small, the electron beam is large, and the intensity of the generated X-ray is large.

3. Features of high energy radiography
(1) Strong ray penetration ability, large transillumination thickness
(2) The focus is small, the focal length is large, and the photographic clarity is high.
(3) Less scattering lines and high photographic sensitivity
(4) High ray intensity, short exposure time, continuous operation, high work efficiency
(5) photographic thickness tolerance is large

4. Radiation protection of high energy rays
The high-energy rays generated by the accelerator are not only high in energy but also strong in strength. Safety protection must be done.

The protection of the accelerator is mainly shielded. The shielded room of the accelerator must be designed with special safety protection. The outdoor dose rate must be lower than the national sanitary standard.

Because ozone and nitrogen oxides generated by high-energy X-rays ionizing air are harmful to the human body, a ventilator must be installed in the room for ventilation.

For linear accelerators, in addition to the protection against high-energy X-rays, microwave radiation protection should be applied, as well as high-voltage, Freon gas and other hazards to the human body.
