X-ray inspection---Neutron radiography application

Neutron radiography inspection technology is a supplement to conventional X-ray and Y-ray inspection technology. The main disadvantage of neutron radiography inspection technology is that the neutron source is expensive. Pay special attention to the safety and protection of neutrons when using neutrons. Radiography can be applied to nuclear industrial devices, explosive devices, turbine blades, electronics, and aerospace structural components (including metal honeycomb structures and components).

Nuclear industrial installations. Neutron radiography is used in the nuclear industry for the nuclear fuel of ianyan high-radiation materials, measuring its size, showing the condition of the fuel, observing the leakage of the coolant or the distribution of oxides and isotopes.

Explosive devices and rocket fuel devices. The detection of explosive devices and rocket fuel devices is an important application aspect of neutron radiography. Such devices are typically equipped with a hydrogen-containing explosive or fuel in a casing made of metal such as lead or stainless steel. Neutron photography not only shows the explosives or fuel contained in the metal casing, but also whether the density is uniform or not.

Steam turbine blades. For steam turbine blades made by wax casting, it is determined that no residual ceramic core remains in the interior of the cooling cavity after cleaning, and can be inspected by neutron photography.

Electronic device. Some electronic devices that contain foreign matter (such as paper, cloth, etc.) will not work, and neutron rays can display this.

Aviation structural components. Honeycomb structures used in aerospace and other equipment can be detected by neutrons, which can show the bond quality of the structure of the manufacturing or repair process or the distribution of the binder resin. For metal components (such as aluminum metal, which are susceptible to oxidation and corrosion) Corrosion is detected; the moisture present in the in-service structure can be detected.
